Another Month Gone By....

Over the past few days I have found myself increasingly curious what is out there regarding donor conception and even responded to a post I on the DSR blog on the DSR Yahoo Group. Essentially I still wish more men came to groups like the DI Dads Yahoo group so they can discuss their feelings / thoughts regarding DI with other men before they flatly tell their wives that as a couple they will never tell the children their conception stories.

  1. For the few that do come along, it's worth it.

  2. My son (born June 2006) was conceived via donor insemination. My wife wanted to keep it secret from everyone at first and from our son until he was older, so that he could be the first to learn of it, but I convinced her that he should grow up with the knowledge never having to be "broken" to him. Also, i convinced her that there is nothing about the idea that should require us to keep it secret from anyone else, either, especially since we are not hiding it from our son until some opportune moment of revelation. Thus, we have become very open about it, have made contact with a single mom whose daughter was conceived via DI by the same donor, and we feel good (at least so far) about our choices here. I suppose that one day my son will want to borrow the car and stay out late and will counter my denial with "You're not even my dad," but I said equally nasty things to my biological parents and I think that sort of thing is just par for the parenting course no matter who you are. I hope to join the discussion some more when I've got the time, but right now work's pressing and my time at home is reserved for my son. Cheers, -- Vinnie in New York

  4. In theory, sure, but I don't have time for lots of other equally worthy things I'd like to do. We live on LI and work in Manhattan, bringing little Vincent to day care in Manhattan, leaving us very little family time -- so we rarely opt for things to do during our free time that don't involve all three of us. That's not a no, just more of a when the heck would I ever fit it in. I sent you an email at an address you had on site here somewhere, so if you reply to that we can discuss details that way.
